Cruisin'

Abby and I have been getting around a lot!  It's been fun. Above is the party bus (disguised as a school bus). That's Abby's boy-friend Canyon. That's Tim's good friend's son.  Canyon's mom has the same name as Abby!  Abby B.  Abby doesn't like Canyon because he hits her.  One day we were going over there and she refused to take off her dress. She said, "Mom, I want to show Canyon my dress." I replied, "Abby he doesn't care about your dress." Abby whispers, "Mom, he does. He says I'm so pretty." "Oh," I say, " then why does he hit you?" Abby said, "Becuase I ignore him."
HA! They start young!

Abby's dress! This is way cool. My lil' fashion designer.

Abby's ALASKA
A note about pallet fires (since we utitlized a few of the 20 pallets people dropped at the beach the other night): I in no way condone them. In fact they are rather annoying. I do not appreciate the nails on the beach as I like to walk in bare feat...If people isolated the pallet fires to one area of the beach, that would be tolerable, but willy nilly all over is just littering.  Speaking of litter, I have been noticing quite a bit as I have been out berry picking in the woods. Some hang out spots are trashed, while others have trash cans and trash bags and kids are taking care of them. Kudos to you!  As a friend said, my kids will probably go out partying and drinking (this is normal, eh?), but the moment they litter, they are in big trouble!

Tried fishing for silvers, but below is all I got (me with dead humpies).  This kid was so cute and knew a lot about fishing.  He should be on a TV show - very entertaining.

Thanks for the pallets Coasties - they made a great fire...

Kodiak driftwood palace

This dude's house is crazy! It's a driftwood palace. He has a serious wood problem. There are mazes and entire structures of wood - both chopped for fire and driftwood.

Historic Japanese glass buoys - check.  Arctic entry with handbuilt steps complete with dirftwood decoration - check. Xtra Tuff boots - check. Growing plants in halibut tubs or Spenard buckets - check.

Banya. I like how it even has wood storage around the perimeter.

A 1930s shipping container!  How cool is that?

I must be having a moment here! Oh my sweetie!

I love this pic. Just makes my heart melt.

Abby's first horse ride at the fair!

And yes, we did Zumba in public too!

Fair Wind

The Kodiak Fair and Rodeo was Labor Day weekend. Unlike previous years, I did not enter anything and thus no blue ribbons for pottery or pie. We had tons of fun though. Abby got a pony ride, we did Zumba (it public!), played games, petted animals, saw the entries of veges, crafts, and muffins, and saw a little rodeo.

On Monday we went to Pasagshak. It was WINDY!  Instead of the beaches we normally go to, we walked down an ATV road to the north side of Narrow Cape to a gravel lagoon shore. The gravel happened to be comprised of fossils!

We hung out at this large driftwood bunk, complete with sleeping shelter and bench

We also stopped at the Olds River and examined the live and dead humpies
