Narrow Cape

Field of lupine with pillbox (HDOP 1 I believe) in the distance.
I felt like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz running through the poppies.
Falling off the cliff.

Structure for the searchlights. Basically, my understanding is that there were controls in the pillbox to operate the lights. The lights rolled out on tracks. You could not get close to the lights. They were very bright, and I imagine quite hot, but not sure about that. The lights shined out to the ocean, which one probably couldn't see because of the fog and/or rain, in hopes of spotting incoming Japanese ships. Yes, ships. The defenses on Kodiak were built after Pearl Harbor (an attack by air). Kodiak had no anti-aircraft armament. I believe that the guns at Miller Point were from a WWI ship, so the defenses seem perhaps not only insufficient and impractical, but ridiculously expensive considering it was used for a few years. Of course, I am no expert!

Fossils.

The ocean is at least a half mile away, so that was a big wave or storm that brought all this driftwood up.

Great photos. Kodiak had ak-ak guns on Pillar, around the base & at site of powerhouse. Specially designed airplane with huge engines towed air target. One day some rounds fell short--into town. & bleach to roust octopii is sick bird (ill eagle).
