Sushi

 Abby's favorite food.
So ready to eat sushi, I forgot to take a picture before we destroyed it all! Abby likes bagel roll (smoked salmon, cream cheese), crunchy shrimp, and the Coastie roll. Powerhouse is by far the best restaurant in Kodiak. Very high quality sushi. You can't say "high quality" in regards to a lot of the other food in town, not that there's much! I have learned to cook a little since being here. Wish I had more time to cook. In reality, by the time we get home, I cook, clean, laundry, homework, bath, bed! What?! Boo hiss. So, I only cook from mostly-scratch twice a week at most, with leftovers of course, then the rest is processed/prepared food.  A lot healthy, but sometimes McOno's it is!

Abby wants to go on the Tusty. Nope, never been on the Kodiak ferries. The SW has better options. There is more than one destination. Well, we have two options, if you want to travel four days to Dutch Harbor. I've heard it's pretty, and they have a lot of WWII stuff. The part of me with EOG (early onset grumpiness) says I am too busy with work and volunteer activities. The other part just looked up how many miles it cost to fly one way.....

Post hence

Such a small, insignificant subterranean structure, but

apparently not. Must be important as it is surrounded by barbed wire, 70 years later.

Some things you can't unsee

I have learned answers to two of my questions. They are gas doors, and it indeed is a sewer access point, aka manhole.

And a correction. I believe I referenced a man made hill near Buskin Hill gun mounts. Indeed manmade, but made to fill in the igloo style magazine. Bummer.

Urg, how many more photos of mossy rectangles???

Well, I'm having fun. I mean look how dark it is in the full light.

And the bear. Don't see it? Well, there's Safeway bag poo right on top of the footprint of the structure. I can imagine the bear with the buoy. The first time I saw a bear he was laying on his back tossing a bear, I mean beer, can around.

Try walking through this is summer. It's kind of intimidating now.

The squeak of the half fallen tree, eerily calling, an ear titillating summon.

The bear trail goes right over the pits in pit-city.

Pit -city. On the other side the pits were associated with small structures. Why 40 or something tanks or whatnot here?

For the housing below? Not only the amount, but the random layout of the pits is unusual.

 wooden pipe

where did that go to? It's a swamp. What is below the swamp?

Typical Kodiak - lovely beach, nearby gravel pit, power lines, WWII control, and efficient energy.

Yesterday's snow is just that - it was snow yesterday and slush/ice today. Fluffy stuff doesn't last long in Kodiak. We did not get a chance to go sledding, so we took the chance to try 'slushing' on the local hill tonight. In the rain and through the slush, Abby loved it! "That was awesome mom." A true Kodiak girl!

National Dress Up Your Pet Day

Asher as princess, Flower with binoculars, Carmel with pirate flag, Pushki with orange wings, Whiskers with lei, and Basil with bandana. Carmel (with leopard spots) was my cat. She has had some adventures. I used to carry her with me, I must have been younger than Abby, and one time when we were hiking at daycare she fell down a hill. The daycare provider (probably some girl in her 20s) looked at me and rolled her eyes. The other provider did not want to go down and get her, but someone did. Just think, she could have been lost and decaying in the woods this whole time.

Prophetic pathetic fallacy

I did not realize the extent of the remains. I could not travel, off trail of course, 50 feet without finding another site.  Collapsed Quonset.

It' s not all glorious as a gun mount, but absolutely thrilling for me just the same.
Could it get any better?!

Traversing on a foot of moss is way different than feet hitting pavement or gravel.

 Oh look, it's A1518.

 And footings!

In comprehendingly comforting rows.

The moss so cold footprints evident a day later. Also bear prints. Lots of bears. I also did not realize how many bears till I got off trail. At one point on one of my return trips I found a trail to take. I didn't have a lot of choice, it was steep up and a stream down, so I kept on it. It kinda looked human, but it had that bear trail look. I was being very verbal, and then finally came to accept that indeed I was on a bear trail. My next move was over a blind hill. I got to the top, and lo and behold had a bear bed in my face! Minus the bear. I was ultimately really close to the human trail. I can imagine the Coasties wondering who is that loud cussing woman. Amazing how just 100 feet can make so much a difference, between the human kingdom and primal wilderness.

I try to take the old roads to find the remnants of structures.

But often the flat roads have become waterways.

Wonder what this sign said?

I know what this one is.

like I could stay away? To walk the same hallway. Amazing.

 That note is original.

Linoleum!

Still don't know about the doors - blast, fire, or gas or all three?

mount and one of the corresponding magazines

So what am I doing? Well, I have an idea. Will I do it? I know I can, I have the know-how, but am lacking some resources. Do I have the confidence? Situation makes me sick. Stuck. Did you think I would just be like, "oh it's ok"?
